Who or whom is the school named after?

The name was acceptable to both language groups.

What does the name mean?

The name symbolizes the high ideals and broad extent of the education we envisage for our pupils.

What is the rationale behind the naming?

The positioning of the new buildings was carefully planned to offer a sweeping vista of the picturesque countryside and the remarkable growth of Newcastle, albeit visible primarily from the top floor of the senior primary block.

When and who built the School?

School was built in 1973 by the Department of Education. The school started on 23 January 1973 as Primary School Iscor East.  There were 5 teachers and the first principal was Mr BJ Vosloo.

What were the first buildings made of?

The initial structure was constructed using bricks and cement.

How many classes did the school have at that time?

25 classes

Who was the first principal?

The first principal was Mr. BJ Vosloo.

What are the alterations that have taken place since the school was inaugurated many years ago?

The school, originally a Model C Primary School, ceased operations in 1993 however, it was reopened in 1995 under the name Panorama High School. In the year 2000, Grades 1-7 were introduced, transforming the school into a combined institution. In 2009, Grade R was implemented but eventually discontinued in 2011.

The Panorama of 1983 has emerged from the melting pot to which the heat was first applied on 23 January 1973.  It represents the culmination of the efforts and dedication – and, less often, the lack of it – of a multitude of teachers, pupils and parents.

23 January 1973 represents the start of an enriching experience for everyone that was involved in our school.  Our ideals originally existed so that we would be able to survive any crises that could come our way. However, eventually they broadened and grew with our school and we can now with gratitude witness that Panorama is now able to provide a service to its community.

Over the last decade we have been considerate to provide our learners with a balanced education. A balanced education implies the development of essential basic skills in addition to meaningful formative education involving intellectual, social, moral, emotional, spiritual and physical growth. We trust that we have made a significant contribution towards influencing our pupils to eventually become knowledgeable, critical, creative and adaptable adults.

My prayers for Panorama – whether I will have a part in it’s future or not – is continued healthy growth.
